Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Requests Public Hearing on Gun Bills

TX Lieutenant Governor Dan PatrickRecently, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick was portrayed as backpedaling on his campaign promises on Constitutional Carry and Campus Carry. He claims he was mis-characterized by those attempting to sabotage pro-Second Amendment efforts.

Today, Patrick referred the following legislation to the Senate State Affairs Committee:

  • Senate Bill 342 (SB 342), Relating to providing for the open and concealed carrying of handguns without a license and to related offenses and penalties.
  • Senate Bill 346 (SB 346), Relating to the authority of a person who is licensed to carry a handgun to openly carry a holstered handgun.

Patrick stated:

I have asked the chair of the committee to schedule these two bills, and the Campus Carry (Senate Bill 11) bill which was referred last week, for a public hearing as soon as possible.

Over the past week the senators have been working hard to build support and I look forward to working on these 2nd Amendment priorities.

  1. i want open, concealed and campus carry we need to protect our loved ones, ourselves and people in the time of need its up to we the people time to defend ourselves, our properties our country we cant walk, drive,go to school,or shopping without being in harms way texans would sacrifice themselves in times of need to be able to be free

  2. It would be nice if we didn’t need any bill but the Second Amendment. If the State needs a Bill let it be simple and to the point. Any person can at anytime and any place carry a firearm and if that person commits a crime with a firearm then that person should be arrested and tried for such said crime.
