Today, during the announcements time prior to Bowie County Commissioners Court, County Judge James Carlow and Commissioners Whitten and Carter gave an update on efforts to deal with flooding of the Red River.
Judge Carlow said that evacuation of cattle was ongoing, and that residents were making preparations to evacuate, if necessary. Many of our neighbors are loading furniture onto trailers, and are ready to head to higher ground. Others have carried furniture upstairs.
In addition, efforts are underway to make sure the levee is intact, including areas where herds of cattle crossing it have created low spots.
Many organizations were thanked for their contributions to the effort, and Commissioner Mike Carter assured the audience that the commissioners are working together 100%.
Judge Carlow said that sandbags would be available this afternoon (Tuesday) for private use.
