Spring Lake Park Project Requires Relocation of Fowl

Spring Lake Park

TEXARKANA, TX– The City of Texarkana, Texas has partnered with a local contractor, Little’s Critter, to relocate approximately 30 ducks and geese from Spring Lake Park that are considered and or identified as domesticated.

Originally, Texas Parks and Wildlife instructed the city to leave the animals at Spring Lake Park during the dredging of the lake. The ducks and geese were expected to naturally migrate as necessary. Upon a follow up observation, TPW recommended that the domesticated animals be relocated.

The relocation began yesterday evening, July 26, 2017 and will take approximately 3-5 days. The birds will be relocated to Karrh and Wallace Parks.

The Four States News is happy to see this taking place.  We recently observed the ducks and geese in the area and noticed that they had not migrated to another area.  Like the Texas Parks and Wildlife, we would have expected them to go to another lake – possibly the Bobby Ferguson Park on the Arkansas Side, or toward Bringle Lake Park.  The wildlife did neither and were observed moving up and staying near the well house at Spring Lake Park and attempting to use the creek that feeds into the lake for refuge.  We commend Texarkana, Texas for taking measures to ensure the safety of the wildlife during this clean up of the lake.
