Texarkana residents are invited today to take part in a Community Forum on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The forum provides an opportunity for residents of all ages to come together to ask questions about the disease, share their personal experiences, learn about available resources, and discover volunteer opportunities to support families affected by the disease. Registration is required (see below).

“The Alzheimer’s Community Forum is way to connect with others who have been impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias and truly understand what the impact to the community is and how we can put steps in place to better serve individuals in the Texarkana and surrounding areas,” said Debra Adams, Director of Community Relations at the Alzheimer’s Association. “As we continue to provide care, support, education and research to the residents across North Texas, it is important for us to meet individuals within the community and listen to their experiences related to Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.”
The Alzheimer’s Association believes no individual or family should navigate the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease alone. Community forums hosted by the Association bring together families, health care experts, and community leaders to open conversation in an effort to bolster resources, programs and services to support families and professionals in their communities.

Working together by collaborating with community partners and Texarkana volunteers, the Alzheimer’s Association can ensure families have the resources needed to face the many challenges associated with the disease. Community partners and volunteers are essential in helping the Alzheimer’s Association best serve the needs of families affected by the disease, in driving awareness and in mobilizing the Texarkana community in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

An estimated 5.8 million Americans of all ages are living with Alzheimer’s dementia in 2019. This number includes an estimated 5.6 million people age 65 and older and approximately 200,000 individuals under age 65 who have younger-onset Alzheimer’s. By 2050, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer’s dementia may grow to a projected 13.8 million,
barring the development of medical breakthroughs to prevent, slow or cure Alzheimer’s disease.

“You can help raise awareness by sharing information about the event with anyone you know who lives or works in or around the Texarkana area,” continued Debra. “This complimentary Forum has limited seating so registration is required. People can sign up to participate by calling
our 24/7 Helpline at 1.800.272.3900 or by going online at .”
