TEXARKANA, Texas – Officials from Texas A&M University-Texarkana donated 55 COVID-19 test kits each to CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital and Wadley Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, April 8th. The test kits were shipped to A&M-Texarkana from the Texas A&M University System, which shipped test kits to all 11 Texas A&M System universities in an effort to help combat the COVID-19 outbreak on a local level. “We are so thankful for the many men and women in our medical community who are working on the front lines to take on this pandemic.” said A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Emily Cutrer. “We are happy to be able to contribute in some way and hope that these additional test kits make a difference for local patients.”

TEXARKANA, Texas – Officials at Texas A&M
University-Texarkana have announced that online instruction, scheduled to begin
Monday, March 23, will continue throughout the end of the spring 2020 semester. Students and parents as well as
faculty and staff were notified of the decision Wednesday afternoon via an email
from university president Dr. Emily Cutrer. “It was originally our intention to
evaluate the necessity of online classes on a weekly basis and make any changes
accordingly,” said President Dr. Emily Cutrer. “As we looked at the climate
more closely we decided the right decision was to extend the online instruction
period through the end of the semester. This allows our students, faculty, and
staff to settle into a new routine without having to worry about what might
change from one week to the next.”

Most university employees will
work remotely, while a skeleton crew of staff will remain on site to ensure the
continuity of university operations and provide for the needs of students who

TEXARKANA, Texas – In the wake of the continuing
spread of COVID-19 and in the interest of the health of the entire Texas
A&M University- Texarkana community the university has announced that all
classes will be delivered online beginning Monday, March 23rd. All
athletic events have been suspended as have all university and non-university
events on the TAMUT campus. The university’s spring break was already scheduled
for the week of March 16-20. Students and parents as well as
faculty and staff were notified of the change Thursday afternoon via an email

Selection, Planting, and Care” on Monday, March 9th. The event will

TEXARKANA, Texas – The faculty members of Texas
A&M University-Texarkana’s education program gathered in full academic
regalia recently for a ceremony welcoming 33 new students into the university’s
teacher preparation program. The students had an apple-shaped pin placed on
them and heard words of advice from guest speaker Chad Pirtle, Superintendent
of the Pleasant Grove Independent School District. The pinning ceremony took
place in front of a large crowd of family and friends as well as TAMUT faculty
and staff members. Students officially enter the
teacher preparation program around their junior year and are pinned during
their first semester in the program. “The pinning ceremony is a celebration of
their decision to become educators and their admission into the program,” said
Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Abbie Strunc.” The students pinned in the

University-Texarkana’s department of Literature, Composition, and Mass
Communications and the Program for Learning And Community Engagement (PLACE)
are sponsoring a lecture and book signing by investigative journalist and Texarkana
native Jerry Mitchell on Thursday, February 27th. The event begins
at 7:00 p.m. in Eagle Hall inside the University Center building. The program
is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served. Jerry
Mitchell worked as an investigative reporter for The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Mississippi, for more than three
decades. His stories have helped put four Klansmen and a serial killer behind

TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana
and the Department of Extended Education and Community Development (EECD) will
be hosting an OSHA 511 Standards for General Industry course February 18 – 21
on the A&M-Texarkana Campus. The course is scheduled to meet from 8:00 a.m.
until 5:00 p.m. each day and students must pre-register. The cost of this
course is $599. This course covers the OSHA standards for general industry
found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910 along with other relevant
policies, procedures, and safety and health principles for general industry. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are the most hazardous and most
