Nancy Herron, Miller County Tax Assessor
If you have ever needed to look a property record up for
Miller County, Arkansas, then you may have used the online service known at “ActDataScout”. The service offers access to several counties
and the opportunity to search property records, and see mapping for properties. What you may not know is that the service has
expanded to cover assessments. Nancy Herron took over as the new Tax Assessor for Miller
County in January. Nancy and her team
wasted no time rolling out the online assessment coverage for Miller
County. Now if you have an existing
assessment with the county, you can go online and easily add new vehicles. Not only can you access the site from your
computer at ActDataScout.com, but you can also find an app for those wishing to
use their cell phones or tablets.
Assessments are required for new vehicles, boats, motorcycles, RVs, etc. You have to have completed an assessment with the county assessor before you can register for tags. In the past this has meant a trip to the Assessor’s office or a call to talk with someone about your assessment needs. Now with the online service, you can complete your assessments without going to the courthouse.
Nancy is encouraging everyone to spread the news and use the
app or the online service as needed.
However, if you are still more comfortable talking with someone on the
phone or coming by the office, then please do so. Nancy and her crew will be glad to help you
complete your assessment needs.
ActDataScout.com is operated by DataScout, LLC.

Texarkana, AR – Enter Bobby Ferguson Park near UofA Way or pass it as you come off the Interstate and you’ll see a nice, rock sign on the hillside just inside the park informing you of the park’s name. However, if you enter from the Fairgrounds end of the park, there is no sign to indicate the name of the park. Soon, the lack of a park sign will not be a problem near the Four States Fairgrounds. The Texarkana Arkansas Beautiful Commission works to improve the appearance and beautification of Texarkana, Arkansas. In addition to having clean-up days, dumpster trash days, planting days, and coordinating education about keeping the city clean, the commission has overseen the implementation of signs for city properties. The most recent sign, the huge “Welcome to Texarkana” sign on the Interstate was one of the larger sign projects the commission has undertaken in recent years. The commission usually, through suggestions of need, etc. attempts to take on a sign project whenever it can afford to do so. Funding is supplied through the A&P Commission and the City Beautiful Commission seeks bids, designs the signs, and implements the projects. Once completed, several other groups, including city maintenance, the Master Gardners, and other volunteer groups join in to assist in planting, watering, and maintaining the signs for the city. The commission’s latest project is underway right now. The unfinished sign is coming together on the southwest corner of Bobby Ferguson Park. When finished, there will be two flag polls, the sign, lights, water, and plants to celebrate and enhance the new sign’s location. Continue Reading →

Miller County, AR – Mary Kay Hicks has spent the last three and a half years as the Chief Deputy Collector for the Miller County Tax Collector. That short stint in Miller County does not do her justice when looked at alone. Hicks has spent twenty years serving the citizens of Miller County. She was also appointed by the Quorum Court to serve as the Tax Collector before the election of the current Collector, Cathy Hardin-Harrison. Many people will recognize her from her work at the Tax Collector’s office where she has answered questions, assisted with problems, and…as the Tax Collector’s office does…taken your payments. Today at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., employees that the courthouse will celebrate Mary’s twenty years of service. She will be retiring soon and this celebration is meant as an appreciation and a send off to a wonderful retirement. The event is open to the public and Tax Collector Elect Laura Bates has extended invitations to friends, family and through social media. Miller County, AR-If you have been to the Miller County Clerk’s office lately, then you may have noticed a change. If you made your way there in July or even the first of August, then you may have felt something was just a little different. No, there is no new paint and no new pictures on the wall. Yes, you still have the same clerk and wonderful staff….well, most of them. The change you should have noticed is the absence of Deputy Clerk Janet Satterfield. While you may not know the name, as she worked diligently in the background for 35 years at the clerk’s office, you certainly will know the face. Janet was the employee that all the other employees seemed to refer you to for questions. You wanted to know about your voter status? They called Janet. You wanted to ask a detailed question about some form? They called Janet. Simply put, Janet held a wealth of information for the county. Some people say she practically served as the right hand of the clerk through Stephanie Harvin and Ann Nicholas’ terms.
Janet always had a smile, always had a kind word, and could always be found in meetings sitting somewhere near the back and silently taking notes for the clerk’s office. To be frank, she had several different jobs and people seemed to turn to her for just about everything even if it wasn’t related to the clerk’s office. As I said, you may have noticed in the last month that Janet hasn’t been around the Clerk’s office. On June 30, 2017, just as quietly as she had entered the job, Janet Satterfield quietly walked out the door of the Miller County Courthouse as an employee for the last time. A small party had been held on the 28th at noon to celebrate her service. She smiled for the camera, shook hands and hugged friends and made her final preparations to leave. Janet Satterfield was one of a kind and a huge asset for Miller County. Already I have heard of at least three people who were surprised when they went to the clerk’s office and Janet was not there to help them. At the Four States News we knew Janet was leaving on June 30. We also knew that she is a quiet person who prefers to stay in the background and work hard. Well Janet, we gave you a little time before we posted anything about your retirement, but that time is up. You should know the county will never be the same and your smiling face will be missed in the day-to-day workings of our little southwest corner of Arkansas. Enjoy that retirement. Citizens of Miller County, if you happen to see Janet at a store, event of somewhere else, you should return her wonderful smile and tell her how much you appreciate her 35 years of service to your county. Miller County, AR – Some are calling it “Public Shaming,” but for the Miller County Tax Collector, she is calling it “Public Accountability.” What is that “Public Accountability”? It’s a list of over $200,000 of taxes owed to the county that is hitting social media today. Several media outlets have already published the list. Most of the responses from the public have been supportive so far; however, there have been a few that prefer to call it all “Public Shaming” and feel that it should not have been done.
