Governor Hutchinson Issues Statement About Razorbacks Continuing to Play at War Memorial

LITTLE ROCK – Governor Asa Hutchinson released the following statement regarding the agreement between the University of Arkansas and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism to continue Razorback football games at War Memorial Stadium through 2024:

“This is great news for Razorback fans and War Memorial Stadium. War Memorial evokes a sense of nostalgia, and many families have great memories of the games they attended there. And for some fans, these games in Little Rock are their only opportunity to see the Hogs play in person, and maybe their only chance to attend a big-time SEC football game. This gives more people the opportunity to experience the excitement of the Razorback traditions. I commend Chancellor Steinmetz and Athletic Director Yurachek for working with the state for a plan that benefits everyone.” Continue Reading →

Pleasant Grove Hawks Fly Into Arlington To Make History

Texarkana, TX- On Thursday afternoon Josh Gibson and his Pleasant Grove Hawks rolled out of Texarkana with a police and fire escort to the Interstate. Once on I-30, they headed to Arlington and their date with history. The Hawks, undefeated at 15-0, flew out in hopes of winning the school’s first state championship. In Dallas, the West Orange-Stark Mustangs with their own impressive 13-0 record waited. To further intimidate the Hawks, West Orange-Stark was now playing in their eighth consecutive championship game. They had won all seven of the previous championships. The two Texas football titans would Friday night with social media across Texas flashing the news of scores, drives, and defensive plays most of the evening. Unfortunately for West Orange-Stark, the Hawks were hungry. Having never won a championship before in the school’s history, Pleasant Grove charged into the game scoring from the start. In the final moments, West Orange-Stark showed why they had a 13-0 record as the team came roaring back. With about 5 minutes left the score was 28-21 as the Hawks struggled to hold their lead against the rapidly approaching Mustangs. Perhaps realizing that history was in danger, the Hawks fired back and ended the game with a 41-21 victory and the first championship in the school’s history. Congratulations Pleasant Grove! You’ve made all of Texarkana proud as football continues to be a cornerstone of the area for sports. Continue Reading →

LITTLE ROCK – Governor Asa Hutchinson issued the following statement on the passing of Coach Frank Broyles, an Arkansas treasure and college football legend:

“This is a day we knew would come, but it is still a great loss to learn of the passing of Coach Broyles. My first memory of Frank was cheering on the Hogs with my dad, but that was just part of his great legacy. He was an Arkansas treasure who devoted his life to others—from student-athletes to his support of Alzheimer’s research. He was an example for young people to follow, and that alone reflects a life well lived.” Continue Reading →
