Cornyn Applauds Move to Enforce Background Checks on Texas Navigators

Senator John Cornyn

Press Release: U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) praised the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) for proposing rules that would require background checks for those working as Obamacare navigators in Texas. “Since the Obama Administration has shown an utter disregard for securing Texans’ personal information, I am glad to see Texas is proposing criminal background checks for people who will have access to this sensitive data. “Secretary Sebelius may find it acceptable that a convicted felon can become a navigator and acquire sensitive personal information, but that won’t stand here in Texas, and these rules are an important step in the right direction.” Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance and Judiciary Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. Continue Reading →

Cornyn Demands Dismantling Of Obamacare Navigator Program

Senator John Cornyn

Press Release: US.Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) called on President Obama to put an immediate end to the Obamacare navigators program in a speech on the Senate floor today. His full speech can be seen here, and excerpts of his remarks are below:

“I think Secretary Sebelius surprised an awful lot of people when she admitted that people participating in the navigator program could possibly be convicted felons because there is simply no screening mechanism to bar them from participating in the process and no background check whatsoever. “We’ve learned that navigators, including those in my home state of Texas, were actively encouraging people to break the law as a process of signing up for the Obamacare exchanges. It is simply astounding that the Administration is urging the American people to give their social security numbers and sensitive personal information to people who have not been properly vetted. “We need to also dismantle the navigators program before it unleashes a wave of fraud and corruption.”

Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance and Judiciary Committees. Continue Reading →
